Bamboo pulp paper making has a history of more than 1700 years in China. It is recorded that China used bamboo as a papermaking material in the Song, Qi and Liang Dynasties of the Southern Dynasty. Bamboo pulping has the advantages of rich sources, easy pulping, low cost and smooth paper surface, etc.
In terms of bamboo forest resources, Sichuan ranks first in China, especially Muchuan County, which has always been known as the hometown of bamboo.
Characteristics of Bamboo Pulp Papermaking
Bamboo pulp is a kind of pulp, which is often made from bamboo materials such as Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys pubescens and Neosinocalamus affinis by sulfate method or caustic soda method. Different from wood, the cell wall of bamboo fiber is a thick and thin multilayer alternating structure. During beating, bamboo fiber swells outward, fiber diameter increases, while wood fiber swells inward, and cell cavity space shrinks. The whiteness of bamboo pulp almost remained constant, while that of wood pulp decreased.
Benefits of Bamboo Pulp Papermaking
In the past 20 years, the industrial utilization of bamboo has developed rapidly. Bamboo has become a new economic growth point for China’s forestry development. In particular, the development and application of natural bamboo fiber has become the focus of relevant enterprises in recent years, and also a hot issue in scientific and technological research. With the deterioration of the global climate and the reduction of wood resources, there is an urgent need to find new materials to replace wood fiber and chemical fiber. Bamboo fiber raw materials are derived from natural renewable resources, and the products can be biodegradable after use, meeting the environmental requirements. Bamboo fiber is considered to be the ideal material to replace these fibers.
It is understood that 17 trees need to be cut down to make one ton of paper, and 1500 liters of fuel will be used. It can be said that a small page of paper is a large page of gold. Using bamboo instead of wood as the raw material of paper making is a kind of protection of our country’s forest resources that has made great achievements.
